Anatomy of a Custom Master Bath Install

It all starts with a plan

Initial set up with GoBoard backer board

Waterproofing the joints, seams and corners with Custom’s Red Guard.

Waterproofing the corners and seams with Customs Red Guard.

Float the main floor with Ardex Liquid Backer Board.

Top Coat Float, filling voids and dips.

Install Laticrete Strata Mat, floor heating crack isolation mats with guides for heating wires.

Lay out and snap fit heating wires according to manufacturers recomendations.

Using a Volt Meter, check Ohms for factory settings and continuity. System checks!

Top coat heating wires with a few coats of thinset to address any remaining voids or dips and float and install waterproofing in shower. Three coats of Red Guard used.

After passing shower pan 24 hour leak test, layout herringbone marble tiles, following TCNA layout recommendations for a balanced layout.

An alarm is set on the heating wires in case an accidental break occurs. Checked the Ohm rating for the system and all is fine.

Of course much more goes into the operation – meetings with the general contractor and client, planning around other subcontractor tasks, thought, thought and more thought, workstation set up – needed a huge umbrella to shade the tile saw. This job is only a little more than a third done. Stay tuned for more updates here.
